Matthew is the son of Isaac and Jenna, and is the silent type. He sets out with Karis and Tyrell to get a Roc feather to repair the broken soarwing, and ends up getting into more than he had bargained for thanks to the intervention of the Tuaparang. After the Grave Eclipse is unleashed, he and his companions travel to the Apollo Sanctum to fire the lens that will put an end to the eclipse.

Karis is the daughter of Ivan and childhood friend to Matthew and Tyrell. She is optimistic and strong-willed, and is constantly having to try and keep Tyrell in line. Karis accompanies Matthew and Tyrell on the quest. Her smarts are a great help in starting up the Alchemy Forge and locating the Umbra Gear.

Tyrell, son of Garet, is loudly outspoken, brash, and not too smart. He is the best friend of Matthew, though the two are really more like brothers. He ends up starting the whole quest by foolishly leaping off the roof and breaking the soarwing. Tyrell isn't afraid to speak his mind and tends to get others riled up. He once almost set Patcher's Place on fire as a young boy when losing his temper.

Rief is Mia's son and an apprentice to Kraden along with his sister Nowell. He joins up with Matthew and co. after being kidnapped by Blados since they are separated from Kraden. He is a smart and polite individual.

Amiti is the prince of Ayuthay, his uncle being the King. He spent his whole life so far believing that his mother, Veriti, was an Adept and that he had been born from her power. It's only after Matthew and company arrive in Ayuthay- he had a father, a powerful Adept whose identity was unknown and who started up the Alchemy Well. It is strongly implied ingame, and eventually confirmed by Word of God, that this Adept is Alex himself, but Amiti has yet to find out. He strongly dislikes criminals and believes the Champan pirates to be no good until he ends up owing his life to them.

Sveta is a manbeast Adept, belonging to a race that mutated after the formation of the Golden Sun. She is a member of the Czamaral clan, the royal family of Morgal, and sister to Volechek, the king. Sveta first meets Matthew and co. in Tepe Ruins but after helping them through, she leaves again and later returns to help them rescue Eoleo and Hou Ju, who are being held captive in the Belinsk castle. She is forced to leave after things go wrong and remains with Matthew and company.

Eoleo is prince of the pirate kingdom, Champa. Though he is a pirate, he does have a sense of justice. When Matthew and company arrive in Belinsk, he is already being held prisoner at the castle by Morgal forces. His father, Briggs, has tried to rescue him once but failed and asks for Matthew's help. The Adepts are later able to save him and they flee Belinsk on Briggs's ship. Eoleo joins Matthew and company, swearing to avenge his father.

Himi is daughter to Susa and Kushinada and princess of Yamata. She is severely unwell, but recovers when Matthew and co bring the Seeing Eye stone and gains a special Psynergy unique to her, so she lends her aid to them.

Blados is a commander of the Tuaparang and member of the Umbra Clan, a tribe of Dark Adepts. He is first encountered in the Konpa Ruins and forces Matthew and company to go to the Ei-Jei region. He and Chalis manipulate Matthew and co. into starting the Alchemy Dynamo and then set out to use the Apollo Lens as a weapon. They are however defeated in battle.

Arcanus is actually Alex, with a bad disguise. He joins with the Tuaparang and works with Blados and Chalis, but later on goes against them, believing they intend to betray the High Empyror. Though he has a hand in putting the Grave Eclipse in motion, he aids Matthew and company in activating the Apollo Lens that are a means to ending the Eclipse. His motives remain unknown.
