Weyard and Earth

 

Weyard actually has a lot of parallels with the real world. Unfortunately, a lot of references were lost in translation.
So basically we've done the research and uncovered these references. If you want to know more about the parallels between Weyard and Earth, this is the page for you.
We hope you'll find it an interesting read. It sure is a shame the translators couldn't keep these references intact.
Of course, we do appreciate the trouble the translators went to to bring us the game in other languages, but sometimes stuff they do... just doesn't make sense.

Angara- The word Angara comes from Angaraland, a craton located in Siberia. It is part of the continent of Asia, which is part of Eurasia.

Vale- The Japanese name is Hidea, which likely isn't from a real world location but rather the verb "hide".

Mt. Aleph- Called Mt. Alpha in Japanese. It comes from the Greek letter "alpha", which also means beginning or creation.

Vault- In Japanese, this place is named Coopup. Again, not from a real world location, but rather being "cooped up". There is actually a book to be found with the explanation of the name, which wasn't changed to match up with the localized name of the village.

Lunpa- In the same theme of Haidia and Coopup, possibly not from a real world location. May be a reference to the fictional thief, Arsène Lupin.

Bilibin - Called Bilibino in Japanese. The real world Bilibino is a town in Russia.

Kolima - From Kolyma, a region located in the far northeast Russia, named after the Kolyma River.

Imil- Imil is possibly named for Ymir in the Japanese version. Ymir was the founder of the frost giants.

Fuchin Temple- From Fuqing City, in China.

Mogall Forest- Mogol Forest in Japanese, probably comes from Mongolian Plateau, part of the Central Asian Plateau.

Xian- The name of this town comes directly from Xi'an, the capital of the Shaanxi Province in China.

Silk Road- There really is a Silk Road in the real world. It is an interconnected network of trade routes across the Asian continent. One such route actually starts at Xi'an as well.

Altin- Possibly from Altyn-Tagh, a mountain range in Northwestern China.

Lama Temple- There is a real life Lama Temple too. It is located in Beijing, China. It is also one of the largest and most important Buddhist monasteries in the world.

Lamakan Desert- The name is the same in both Japanese and English. It is actually a corruption of a real world place name, as in the Taklamakan Desert. This desert is located in Central Asia.

Kalay- The name Kalay likely comes from Carrhae, now known as Harran. In Roman times, it was named Carrhae. Interestingly, the Silk Road, which skirted the Taklamakan Desert mentioned above, was used to ship goods from China to Rome via Carrhae. It is a village located in Turkey. It's also possible the name may come from the coastal town and district, Demre, once known as Kale, also located in Turkey. Kale is a Turkish word meaning castle or fortress.

Tolbi- Called Trevi in Japanese. Trevi is an ancient town located in Italy. There is a famous fountain which is located in a part of Trevi, and it has a traditional legend involving throwing coins into the fountain, reminiscent of the Lucky Spring in Tolbi.

Altmiller Cave- Altamira Cave in Japanese. Probably named after Cave of Altamira, located in Spain.

Gondowan- Called Gondwana in Japanese, named after the ancient supercontinent Gondwana.

Suhalla/Suhalla Desert- These places were named for the Sahara Desert.

Lalivero- Comes from Lalibela, a town located in northern Ethopia, which is in Africa.

Babi Lighthouse- Reference to Tower of Babel.

Indra- Named after India.

Daila- The original name for the town is spelled as "Deli", which is a reference to Delhi, the second largest city of India.

Kandorean Temple- The original name for the place was Kandora Temple, which can be translated as Kandla Temple. Kandla is an actual place in India.

Dehkan Plateau- Name comes from Deccan Plateau, in India.

Madra- Named after Madras, the fourth largest metropolitian area of India.

Osenia- The name comes from Oceania, a region which includes Australia.

Yampi Desert- May come from Yampi Sound, a part of the Indian Ocean located off the coast of northwestern Australia.

Alhafra- The original name is Arafura, a reference to the Arafura Sea, which crosses between Australia and Indonesia.

Mikasalla- Named after Meekatharra. It's a town in the Mid West region of Australia.

Garoh- The Japanese name is Popiichii, and is likely named after Bopeechee, in South Australia.

Yallam- Possibly from Yarram, a town located in Victoria, Australia.

Taopo Swamp- Called Taupo Swamp in Japanese, after Taupo Swamp in New Zealand.

Naribwe- The Japanese name is Niri. May possibly come from Nyiri Desert, located in Kenya, Africa.

Kibombo Mountains- Named Mingu Mountain Range in Japanese, possibly after Mingu, a place in South Africa.

Kibombo- There is an actual place named Kibombo, located in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The Democratic Republic of the Congo is located in Central Africa.

Izumo- Comes from Izumo Province, Japan, which is also where the legend of Susano and Princess Kushinada took place.

Mt. Mikage- Actually called Mt. Fuji in the Japanese version.

Apojii- The original name in the Japanese version was Garapas, a reference to the Galapagos Islands.

Champa- Comes from the real world's Champa. It is located in Vietnam.

Ankohl Ruins- Named Angkor in the Japanese version. Angkor was a name applied to the region of Cambodia, located in Southeast Asia.

Lemuria- Some people mistakenly believe Lemuria is based off Atlantis. This is incorrect. There is an actual hypothetical continent known as Lemuria which is variously located in the Indian and Pacific Ocean.

Hesperia- A name of one of the Hesperides.

Shaman Village- Same in Japanese. A shaman is a person who acts as intermediary between the natural and supernatural worlds, using magic to cure illness, foretell the future, control spiritual forces, etc.

Atteka- Possibly a play on the word "Aztec". The Aztec people resided in Central Mexico, and they were also known to make prophecies like the people of Atteka.

Contigo- The original name in the Japanese version is Guiana, which comes from Guianas otherwise known as The Guyana, and refers to the group of three countries, Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana, on the coast of South America.

Loho- The original name is most likely the word Loch.

Kalt Island- The Japanese name is Kuelt, possibly a reference to Celts, the ancient and medieval peoples of Europe.

Prox- From the Ancient Greek word, Phlox, meaning flame.
