The main hero of the first game. Three years previously, Isaac saw his father be washed away in a storm and met two odd looking strangers. At the beginning of Golden Sun, he goes into Sol Sanctum with his friends, not knowing that he will end up embarking upon a dangerous quest in which he must prevent the lighthouses from being lit and also save Jenna and Kraden. Isaac, however, learns that the world will be destroyed if the lighthouses aren't lit and accompanies Felix and co. to light the final lighthouse.

Garet is Isaac's best friend and grandson of the Mayor of Vale. He is very loyal and stands by Isaac throughout their quest. Garet, being a Mars Adept, has a bit of a temper, can be brash and often says ir does things without thinking. He is known to eat practically anything that isn't tied down.

As a baby, Ivan was handed over to a silk merchant named Hammet and raised in Kalay, never knowing of his background. Hammet took him to Vault and, after the Shaman's Rod was stolen, left Ivan there where he met Isaac and Garet and has traveled with them ever since. He meets his sister, Hama, during the journey with Isaac but doesn't learn that she is his sister until well into the second game. Ivan is a polite young boy with good manners.

Mia is one of the sole remaining members of the Mercury Clan and tends to the people of Imil, healing them when they are sick. Her father had an apprentice, Alex, and she is deeply shocked when he returns after a long absence to light the Mercury Lighthouse, effectively betraying the Mercury Clan. Mia joins up with Isaac and company after that. She is gentle and kind, but hides a sarcastic streak.

Felix was washed away by the Mt. Aleph boulder during Vale's storm, along with his parents and Isaac's father. They were presumed dead for three years, but in reality, the four of them were being held hostage in Prox. Felix returned to Vale with Saturos and Menardi, who took the Elemental Stars and kidnapped Jenna and Kraden in the process. Felix takes over as the main hero in the second game after the Proxians' death and sets out to light the last two lighthouses. He is very protective and will even risk his life to protect those he cares about.

Felix's sister. She goes with Isaac, Garet and Kraden into Sol Sanctum, resulting in being kidnapped. She is stunned to learn that her brother is alive and later on learns that her parents are alive as well. Jenna has a fiery temper and is cheerful and energetic.

Sheba grew up in Lalivero, worshipped as a Holy Child by its people, due to the fact that as a baby she fell from the sky into Lalivero and was unharmed. She was raised by the Mayor of Lalivero, Faran, and is considered part of his family. Sheba hopes to find out her past while traveling with Felix but does not. It is, however, hinted that she may have fallen from the moon, which was once Anemos, a city that sat next to Contigo. Sheba is initially timid and quiet, but that's understandable when she keeps getting kidnapped (by Babi, and then by Saturos and Menardi), but shows a much happier side in the second game. She can be quite a tease at times.

Piers is only in the second game and Felix and co. encounter him in Madra, where he has been jailed since the people believe he is Champa. Piers was washed out to sea by the tidal wave. The Black Orb he requires to pilot his ship is stolen and he goes to get it back. Felix and co. help him out and he rewards them by letting them come with him on his ship. Upon returning to Lemuria, the theory that the world is shrinking due to Alchemy is confirmed and they all set off to light the last two lighthouses. Piers stubbornly keeps his age a secret. He can have a bit of a temper when provoked, but is generally mild-mannered.

Saturos is a formidable warrior of the Mars Clan of the North. He initially goes with Menardi to get the Elemental Stars three years earlier, but they accidentally spring a trap that kills the other people who came with them. They take four hostages from Vale and return to Vale later, this time getting three Stars. The pair are defeated by Isaac and co. on Venus Lighthouse and fall down the beacon, never to be seen again.

Agatio is one of the Mars Clan's strongest warriors. He is rather dull-witted and a bit reckless. He sets out with Karst to see how the quest is going and they attempt to take the lives of Isaac and his friends, then Felix and co., before leaving with the stolen Mars Star. The two are stopped by the Wise One and turned into dragons. They do not survive after being defeated by Felix and the others.

Alex is the apprentice of Mia's father and a member of the Mercury Clan. It is initially unknown why he wants the lighthouses to be lit but at the end of the second game it turns out that he is attempting to steal Alchemy. Fortunately, the Wise One has already made preparations beforehand and Alex fails to get the entire power. He is beaten up by the Wise One and left severely injured while Mt. Aleph starts sinking into the ground with him on top of it. It is unknown whether he actually survived or not.
